KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PURPOSE OF POSITION:

POSITION PURPOSE:
This position will lead Key Capture Energy’s storage and hybrid project development activities in MISO (“Midcontinent Independent System Operator”). You will manage a team of direct reports and consultants to move projects from prospecting to construction and into operations. This role coordinates all aspects of regional portfolio management including business development, regulatory, interconnection and permitting to deliver constructible and financeable projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Market Leadership: Own strategy and execution in MISO for both standalone and hybrid projects, from greenfield or acquisition until financial close. Coordinate across all internal teams to effectively communicate risk and opportunity to senior management.
  2. Business Development: lead regional efforts to secure offtake through fostering strong relationships with counterparties, supporting and leading contract negotiations, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure MISO portfolio aligns with future grid need.
  3. Team: Lead growth of internal MISO team; support hiring and provide active leadership and mentorship to support continued evolution of Key Capture’s entrepreneurial environment.
  4. Land: Direct discussions and negotiations of site control agreements with landowners and manage real estate counsel and land contractors. Manage standardization and updates to key terms as market evolves.
  5. Permitting: Lead permitting by coordinating with consultants and attorneys to prepare and submit permit applications and other filings and represent Key Capture at permitting hearings as needed.
  6. Interconnection: Develop strong working relationships with ISO and utility personnel. Manage submittal of interconnection applications, required studies, and queue positions to ensure timely execution of interconnection agreements. Work with other internal teams and industry groups to drive tariff evolution to enable storage deployment.
  7. Public Relations: Promote Key Capture’s external facing brand in the region(s). Manage project team in conducting public relations activities.
  8. Budget & Controls: Manage project schedules, budgets, and financials including forecasting, invoicing, and cost controls with support from other internal teams.
  9. Other responsibilities as necessary.

WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Minimum of five (5) years of proven development experience on large infrastructure projects; successful track record of advancing projects through commercial close, preferably in the MISO.
  2. Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree a plus.
  3. Knowledge of regulatory and wholesale power market dynamics; preferably experience successfully participating in stakeholder processes.
  4. Experience developing and cultivating offtake relationships through deal execution . Understanding of commercial wind, solar, or energy storage off-take agreements. Experience in offtake agreements with both utilities corporate and industrial preferred.
  5. Ability to effectively forecast and manage project scope, schedule and budget and communicate the same effectively to a variety of audiences; possess functional knowledge of necessary software tools.
  6. Experience with land prospecting and acquisition, including necessary GIS and other software tools and legal document fluency. Fluency in identification and clearance of title issues.
  7. Knowledge of local and state-level permitting processes; experience managing resources to submit applications and receive permits.
  8. Knowledge of utility and ISO interconnection processes; experience managing resources to prepare and submit applications, manage study processes, and negotiate interconnection agreements.
  9. Functional knowledge of grid-scale batteries and renewable energy technologies; ability to communicate effectively with technical subject matter experts to support project design decision making.
  10. Ability to travel and possession of a valid license to drive an automobile.
