Position Purpose:
This is a full-time, exempt position that will be reporting to the Director, Project Operations. This individual will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the field electrical Operations & Maintenance program, including all Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical equipment and assets. Provides support for electrical system commissioning of new projects, oversight and coordination of BOP Electrical Equipment maintenance service providers, and the company’s high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical training and qualification programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees work of, and coordinates with, substation maintenance and medium voltage service providers
  • Leads the HV/MV Operations & Maintenance team
  • Ensures facilities’ compliance with applicable NERC standards and other regulatory compliance activities in coordination with the Regulatory Compliance team. 
  • Develops, implements and manages company’s HV/MV training and qualifications program 
  • Leads and provides support on non-routine, event assessment, and troubleshooting activities on all HV/MV equipment
  • Plans, organizes, manages, schedules, and controls all daily service activities for the HV/MV team 
  • Responsible for the planning and execution of all assigned maintenance activities during online, planned and forced outages for both internal and external personnel which includes administration and oversight of all maintenance contract personnel for MV/HV work 
  • Establishes goals and development plans for all direct reports. Evaluates employee performance in accordance with KCE policies and procedures 
  • Ensures for and provides electrical, HV, MV, and substation technical support to operating generating facilities, including constant on-call support 
  • Provides support on and review of electrical design, engineering, testing, and construction activities as requested and in support of the implementation of design standards and best practices within the company 
  • Coordinates with Engineering and Construction to provide feedback on Lessons Learned to support continuous improvement in project execution and operations 
  • Supports and coordinates commissioning, start-up, and initial operating activities for the substation and MV equipment 
  • Manages and oversees the HV/MV spare parts inventory and warehouse 
  • Performs HV/MV switching and grounding of main and unit step- up (or down) transformers, medium voltage transformers, feeder breakers, disconnect switches, and related components 
  • Supports and coordinates statutory periodic substation and MV equipment maintenance at company facilities 
  • Oversees substation and HV/MV audits, testing, and inspections of equipment in accordance with NERC requirements 
  • Coordinates and provides technical support on emergency and routine repair 
  • Creation of documentation of switching orders, OTOs, etc. 
  • Additional duties as required. 
  • Implementation and record keeping of test equipment certification/ recertification on annual basis 

Work Experience & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/power systems engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience 
  • 10+ years of relevant technical experience; some experience in power generation preferred 
  • Experience managing a remote team 
  • Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substation electrical equipment, protection systems, transmission design and operations, familiarity with relay/protection system fundamentals 
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software and database development and management 
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to apply pertinent industry standards and codes. 
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with other departments to drive operational excellence 
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills 
  • Ability to perform and review basic electrical discipline mathematical calculations and electrical design 
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and documents relating to engineering and construction, including but not limited to one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to manage and monitor multiple projects 
  • High attention to detail 
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license 

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to climb or balance
  • Must be able to stop, kneel, crouch or crawl
