POSITION PURPOSE:
This is a temporary, non-exempt position that will be reporting to the Manager, Market Analysis. The Market Operations Intern will use quantitative reasoning, problem solving, data science methods, and programming skills to assist the market operations team in analysis of power market conditions which affect the strategic operations of battery energy storage systems across the Key Capture Energy fleet. Responsibilities may include conducting regression analyses on key market factors, developing statistics with high predictive power of market outcomes, implementing machine learning models to predict market trends, and building reports summarizing performance of different predictive strategies. The ideal candidate is a strong analytical thinker who can independently develop data-backed answers to qualitative questions and communicate their findings to others effectively.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build a fundamental understanding of daily energy market operations in ERCOT
  • Use statistical methods to quantify the impact of market conditions on power prices
  • conduct a literature review to inform design of new algorithms and models
  • Implement and expand data science pipelines to ingest and process large datasets in Python
  • Develop and evaluate machine learning models to identify similar historical days based on forecasted market conditions
  • Build visualizations and deliver reports to summarize findings
  • Other analytical tasks in support of the Market Operations department, such as ad hoc analysis
  • All other duties as required


WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must currently possess or be willing to obtain notary license
  • Pursuing legal degree or a current paralegal
  • 0-2 years of energy industry or analytical experience
  • Pursuing degree in mathematics, computer science, economics, or related field
  • Profiecient in Python and SQL
  • Experience implementing data science and machine learning methods
  • Exposure to supervised metric learning is a plus
  • Experience working with large data sets is a plus
  • Familiarity with energy market fundamentals is a plus
  • Interest in clean energy and power markets
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Strong organizational communication and time-management skills


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
