POSITION PURPOSE:  
This is a permanent, exempt position that will be reporting to the Director of Engineering. Key Capture Energy is seeking a Senior Project Engineer- BESS with an Electrical Engineering degree (or relevant degree with demonstratable experience) that will be responsible to lead and manage Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from an engineering standpoint.  The role involves overseeing all aspects of BESS projects from design and development through installation and commissioning. The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in a broad range of electrical engineering applications, have experience in the energy sector and be able to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and review detailed engineering plans and designs for BESS projects.
  • Prepare and review layout drawings, single-line diagrams, technical specifications for procurement, and other electrical calculations.
  • Actively manage external consultants to verify the deliverables and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Review and approve consultants’ reports, designs, and other outputs.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, addressing any issues or delays promptly.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of BESS projects in construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the project team, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and updates to keep all parties informed of project status and changes.
  • Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure smooth execution of the project.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between internal teams and consultants.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering documentation, including design calculations, reports, and test results.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of engineering work, including design documents, test results, and project reports.
  • Develop and document lessons learned and best practices for future projects.
  • Stay current with advancements in the BESS industry and engineering practices.
  • All other duties as required.

WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred, but other fields will be considered with relevant energy storage experience.
  • At least 7+ years or master’s degree with at least 5 years’ experience in engineering with focus on energy storage systems or similar.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical system design, system studies, relay coordination, protection and control.
  • Operational BESS and PCS experience is a plus.
  • Experience in designing control strategies, SCADA, EMS and knowledge of network design is preferred.
  • Experience in renewable industry is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with grid integration.
  • Ability to read and understand project specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Background in distribution and transmission system regulation and design.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam.
  • Ability to work in a small team
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
